Workforce Investment Community Advisory Committee Announcement of Application
The Workforce Investment San Francisco (WISF) Board is seeking candidates to serve as a representative on the Workforce Investment Community Advisory Committee (WiCAC). These appointments are made by the Board of Supervisors, TAY-SF, the Homeless Coordinating Board and the Re-Entry Council.
Application Process for Members Appointed by the Board of Supervisors
The Clerk of the Board is responsible for vetting and processing applications for members nominated by the Board of Supervisors. Candidates must submit a written application and any supporting documents. Candidates meeting the minimum qualification criteria will be evaluated by the Rules Committee of the Board of Supervisors who will recommend final candidates for a vote by the full Board.
The application is available at the Clerk of the Board’s Website at: http://www.sfbos.org/index.aspx?page=9602. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until all appointments have been made.
Roles & Responsibilities
The Workforce Investment Community Advisory Committee was established by Ordinance 0270-07 and is designed to advise the Workforce Investment San Francisco Board on the City’s workforce needs and solutions to meet them. The WiCAC will identify the "on-the-ground" workforce challenges, and recommend solutions to close gaps in the workforce development infrastructure.
Ideal WiCAC candidates would have direct experience relating to the following:
- San Francisco’s service delivery capacity, identifying any gaps that hinder the City’s ability to cultivate a skilled workforce.
- Special needs and circumstances that prevent San Franciscans from attaining self-sustaining employment.
- How the City can improve its infrastructure to more effectively respond to the dynamic challenges that face residents and employers.
Committee Makeup
The WiCAC will be comprised of seven (7) members that are staff and/or board members of 501(c)3 organizations. They will serve terms for no more than two consecutive terms lasting 2 years each. They will be appointed as follows:
- The Board of Supervisors will appoint four (4) members.
- The Transitional Age Youth Initiative will appoint one (1) member.
- The Homeless Coordinating Board will appoint one (1) member.
- The San Francisco Safe Communities Re-Entry Council will appoint one (1) member.
The Committee members will elect a Chairperson that will serve as a voting member of the WISF. The Chairperson cannot receive any workforce development funding while serving as chair, or two years following his/her term.
