Treasure Island: Additional Awards and Recognition

2009:

American Institute of Architects Honor Award for Urban Design
The Master Plan for the Treasure Island Redevelopment Project was selected as one of 25 recipients from around the world to receive the 2009 AIA Honor Award for Urban Design, the profession’s highest recognition of works that exemplify excellence in architecture, interior architecture and urban design. The selection committee, in distinguishing the project from an international field of over 700 total submissions, noted that the project’s “complex and thoroughly articulated urban design and architectural plan establishes relationships among buildings, public open space, transportation, views, and natural forces, creating a compact, transit-oriented community with a commitment to sustainability unparalleled in the San Francisco Bay Area.”

2008:

AIA California Council: Urban Design Award
The American Institute of Architects, California Council (AIACC) in partnership with the American Society of Landscape Architects, California Council (CCSLA) represents more than 10,000 architects and allied professionals in California.
The 2008 Urban Design Awards honor four Honor recipients and nine Merit recipients. These awards recognize architects who have created sustainable designs that improve quality of work and livable communities. In 2008, AIACC honored the Treasure Island Master Plan with the AIACC Urban Design Award for its architecture that expands the role of urban design, city planning and community development.

California Environmental Project Agency: Governor’s Environmental and Economic Leadership Award
The annual Governor’s Environmental and Economic Leadership Award is administered by the California Environmental Protection Agency and the Natural Resources Agency in partnership with the Department of Food and Agriculture, Business, Transportation and Housing Agency, California Integrated Waste Management Board, and the State and Consumer Services Agency.
The 2008 Governor’s Environmental and Economic Leadership award honored the Treasure Island Master Plan. The program recognized the Treasure Island Master Plan’s staff and their exceptional leadership in developing the vision for a sustainable island city of the future. The award acknowledged the exemplary standards on environmental issues, innovative and sustainable approaches in waste reductions, adequate affordable housing, cost effective infrastructures, highly redeveloped and robust improvements to buildings, and a transferable project that enhances the environmental standards of living at Treasure Island. The review panel honored the “forward-thinking vision” and economic and environmental commitment to sustainability.

2006:

AIA San Francisco Chapter: Urban Design Award
The Treasure Island Master Plan received the 2006 AIA San Francisco’s Design Merit Award. These awards recognized 31 Bay Area firms for their outstanding contributions to architecture and urban design. AIA praised Treasure Island for its diverse design which incorporates a broad range of physical designs in buildings, landscape, and infrastructure.
