Community Benefit Districts
The Community Benefit Districts (CBD) program strives to improve the overall quality of life in targeted commercial districts and mixed-use neighborhoods through a partnership between the City and local communities. Once an area has voted to establish a CBD, local property owners are levied a special assessment to fund improvements to their neighborhood. The funds are administered by a non-profit organization established by the neighborhood.
Current San Francisco CBDs include Castro/Upper Market, Central Market, Civic Center, Fillmore, Fisherman’s Wharf, Mission Miracle Mile. Noe Valley, Ocean Avenue, North of Market/Tenderloin, Union Square, Yerba Buena and Tourism Improvement District
