Biotechnology Payroll Tax Exemption

OVERVIEW

San Francisco’s Mission Bay community is at the center of the biotechnology revolution. To support the expansion of this flourishing industry and the creation of new jobs, the City of San Francisco offers a payroll tax exemption for up to 7.5 years to San Francisco-based businesses engaged in biotechnology pursuits.

TAX CREDIT

Exclusion from the requirement to pay local payroll taxes until 2014.

ELIGIBILITY

Any San Francisco-based businesses conducting biotechnology research and experimental development, operating laboratories for biotechnology research and experimental development, using recombinant DNA, cell fusion, and bio-processing techniques, as well as the application thereof to the development of diagnostic products and/or devices to improve human health, animal heath, and agriculture.
